I did something a little silly again. Today I called a 24 hour prayer line with the hopes that I would be able to witness to them and then ask them to critique my efforts. I have done this many times in the past. I once witnessed to a deacon of a local church. People that are highly involved in church can be the scariest to witness to because they are the ones that take the most offense. To be tactful and kind, I normally say, "As a man/woman of God, may I share the gospel with you and then you tell me what you think? I would enjoy some constructive criticism."After I had finished witnessing to this gentleman, it was clear that he now truly understood the gospel. When I first met him he equated salvation with financial prosperity.
When the lady answered the phone on the prayer line she immediately asked me what she could pray about. I then told her that I wouldn't mind prayer but I was hoping that she could answer a quick question. Her response was quick and her voice sounded a bit annoyed. I then asked her if non-believers call the prayer line, and if so, how does she share the gospel? She commented that this is strictly a prayer line and that she is not to answer questions in regard to the teaching ministry, but she would probably leave them with a few verses and then pray for their wisdom. I asked, "What verses would you leave them with?" Please hold........(10 minutes later) "Sir are you there?" "Yes." "John 3:16 and Romans 10:9, now how can I pray for you?"
Note to self: Stop calling hotel front desks' and prayer lines. They are not interested.
