Today I found myself waiting in my car outside of a dealership. I arrived ten minutes early so I went inside where I found people waiting for their cars to be repaired. Once inside, I began to profile possible candidates. I saw one man standing next to the door looking like he would soon leave, another man appeared busy, and a women sitting down watching Jeopardy. I do not like to witness to women by myself, but this lady appeared several years older than me. To look natural I decided to treat myself to a cup of coffee. Here's what happened after I found all three coffee pots empty.
Leon: (startling me from behind) They are all empty.I discovered that a few minutes ago. I got enough for a small cup, but it was cold.
Me: During a recession, I guess it's wise to cut back in all areas, including how many pots of coffee we make each day.
Leon: The economy will bounce back. You can count on that.
Me: Do you think the tough times will bring more people to God?
Leon: I've always believed in God, but I guess tough times can cause people to think about Him. In the end I guess we will all be okay....I hope (smiling). I don't know. I've been a good person so I'm sure I will be okay.
Of course toward the end of our conversation I informed him that we are not good, but we have been saved by a good God. Also, the talk about the economy was premeditated. I planned on bringing up the economy and then turning things spiritual. Try that sometime. Think about where you are going and what you could say to lead into a spiritual conversation. The economy is a good springboard wherever you go.
