At this point in my life, I have witnessed enough to cringe at certain statements. The one that bothers me the most is "I was born and raised in the church." What does that mean? Most people will use this phrase as a way of getting me to leave them alone, but it begs many questions. What is the church? Does going to church save you? Why didn't your mother go to the hospital for your birth? When a professing Christian from Pakistan, Kenneth, informed me today that he was raised in the church I asked, "So what relevance does Jesus have in your life?" I believe this question startled him because he assumed that I had no reason to pry being that he is a church member. Kenneth did not answer my question. Instead he commented, "I believe in Jesus, but someone else can believe in something else. I believe that all religions are correct." I replied, "Do you read the Bible?" He shook his head no and stated, "You can get nowhere reading the Bible. If you followed the Bible, you would get eaten alive. This world is too rough and one must be strong to survive. I am a self made man." A few minutes later, I explained to him that he was a dead man unless he turns to Jesus. He understood this after I shared with him God's perfect standard, the Ten Commandments. Kenneth became much more humbled as we spoke on the holiness of God and what Christ did on the cross. I think he realized that one is not born into Christianity. You must be born-again.
