When open air preaching, it is sometimes helpful for me to tell a joke to determine the mood of the crowd. Today, it was cold and windy as individuals lined up outside of the courthouse for jury duty. I introduced myself to the long line and told them if they wanted to get out of jury duty, just tell the court that guilt comes before innocence. In the past, I have gotten a few laughs from that joke. No one was laughing today. Perhaps it was the cold, or maybe they anticipated the message that I had to proclaim. Either way, the gospel is no laughing matter.
